The deep sea and coral reefs have always fascinated me, despite my fear of deep waters and the unknown creatures that may lurk beneath. Unfortunately, this fear has held me back from exploring this beautiful underwater world. To overcome this, I turned to the abstract and unknown aspects of the deep sea and created a world above ground where I could exist at ease. This underwater experience is a fusion of my fascination with the corals and my love for light and colour. The fluorescent colours that corals emit are invisible to the human eye, this led me to experiment with ultraviolet light to bring these hidden colours to the surface. ‘Swimming in deep waters’ is a landscape of lamps made from ceramics, treated with UVactive pigments, resulting in a collection that is truly alive with both colour and light.
